In celebration of Marine Protected Area Day, celebrated annually on August 1, CapeNature and the National Research Foundation (NRF) are proud to highlight their ongoing efforts to protect marine life through the Acoustic Tracking Array Platform (ATAP) in the Western Cape’s Marine Protected Areas (MPAs).

Illegal succulent plant trade remains the most pervasive wildlife crime in the Western Cape with most plants earmarked for illicit trade in East Asia, where most of the plants are sold to plant collectors and nurseries.

CapeNature is proud to announce that Die Plaat Beach, located within CapeNature’s Walker Bay Nature Reserve, just east of Hermanus, has been featured on Condé Nast Traveler’s prestigious list of The Best Beaches in the World. The only beach in South Africa to be recognised among a list of 34 beaches worldwide.

CapeNature is looking for a suitable local individual or company (residing within the local municipality of the nature reserve) who would be interested in providing the professional services of managing and operating an on-reserve mobile kiosk, selling of beverages and packaged edibles at Keurbooms River Nature Reserve near Plettenberg Bay, in the Western Cape.

CapeNature is thrilled to announce the identity of its new Cubs Club ambassador, Kai the Cape leopard cub. Kai was introduced to the public and a group of Cubs Club members on Friday, 5 July 2024, for the very first time.

The Cape Peninsula Baboon Management Joint Task Team (CPBMJTT) consisting of representatives from SANParks, CapeNature, and the City of Cape Town, is calling on communities from baboon-affected areas, stakeholders, and organisations from the South Peninsula with a direct interest in baboon management to nominate representatives to serve on the Cape Peninsula Baboon Advisory Group. CapeNature showcased its achievements realised through its dedication to fostering sound governance, innovative eco-tourism offerings, successful conservation operations, and exceptional biodiversity protection at its CapeNature Conservation Review 2024.

CapeNature participated in the Boosmansbos Helihack to remove invasive species from the Duiwenhoks catchment in the Langeberg Strategic Water Source Area. The Helihack initiative is an extraordinary commitment by volunteers to rid catchments of the most difficult-to-manage invasive alien trees.

CapeNature conducted a mini freshwater fish survey through the Leslie Hill Succulent Karoo Trust stewardship project at a site on the Touws River. The survey involved landowners from two properties, the Chanting Ridge stewardship site and Bellair.

The link between oceans and the land is often not well understood. People describe the ocean as that massive water space out there. Little do they know that where they live and how they live actually impacts on this ocean, so much so that they, in their small way, can contribute to a healthy ocean or a polluted ocean.
